Suzanne Collins’ novel The Hunger Games has recently been turned into a film. The novel depicts a futuristic North America and is set in the country of Panem, which consists of the Capitol along with the 12 districts that surround it.
Every year in Panem the ruling authorities organise a ‘Hunger Games’, where 12 girls and 12 boys are chosen at random using a lottery system. The story follows Katniss, a 16 year old girl who volunteers to take her younger sister’s place in the games. Once all the tributes are transported to Capitol all the tributes are prepped and plucked to perfection, ready to be showcased in front of the whole of Panem and get people to root for them in the games. In the games, only one thing matters: survival. It doesn’t matter if you cheat, lie, steal or even kill just be the last one alive.
The premiere of The Hunger Games film hit London just last night –and, being a massive fan of the novel, I was excited to attend.
Jennifer Lawrence (who plays Katniss Everdeen) went for a classic gold dress. This little number not only showed off her curves but also gave a sly nod to the flaming dress worn by her onscreen character, Katniss, during the parade of tributes. Katniss becomes known as the girl on fire, and Jennifer certainly lives up to that title in this outfit. HIT!
Josh Hutcherson (who plays Peeta Mellark) went for an autumn- coloured suit. Unfortunately nobody told Josh that he’s two seasons out of date, and those ugly brown shoes that even my granddad wouldn’t wear certainly didn’t help. MISS!
Elizabeth banks (who plays Effie trinket) went for a gorgeous, backless yellow gown. Cheeky but cool, and most definitely a HIT.
Liam Hemsworth (who plays Gale) went for the traditional look-black tie get-up. With his razor sharp features this classic look was always going to be a HIT.
Aside from Josh’s dreary display, The Hunger Games premiere was an immensely fashionable event. Now you’re a star Josh, it’s time to fork out on some stylists. Perhaps Cilla could help you out…
